Friendship Games amicably conclude in Guangzhou

More than 1,100 competitors from over 70 countries took part in a friendly sports meet held in Guangzhou from Oct 28 to 29.

The 10th Guangzhou Friendship Games consists of a total of six events including basketball, football, badminton, table tennis and bowling. The event was originally a mountaineering challenge which started in Guangzhou in 1998, but has gradually developed to become a special sports meeting with six events.

Held by foreign affairs office of Guangzhou municipal government and Guangzhou Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the event is aimed at promoting exchanges and friendship among Guangzhou residents and foreigners who live and work in Guangzhou.

Participants at the event included Cai Chaolin, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Municipal Guangzhou Committee, consular officials and their family members, representatives of foreign trade associations, overseas students and foreigners living in Guangzhou.

Currently, Guangzhou is pressing ahead with work to build itself into China's key city and the number of inbound overseas visitors and as a result, foreigners living in the city have increased greatly. Inbound visitors come mainly from developed countries including the US, Japan and South Korea and foreign workers are often employed at Sino-foreign joint ventures and foreign-owned enterprises.
