Guangzhou speeds up bus electrification

Guangzhou plans to switch to all-electric bus system by 2018. The city's total number of new energy vehicles is expected to reach 200,000 by the end of 2020.

According to Guangzhou New Energy Vehicles Development Work Plan (2017-2020),since 2010, Guangzhou has been selected as the national demonstration city of new energy vehicles for six consecutive years.

Currently, there are 40,000 new energy vehicles in Guangzhou with total mileage reaching 600 million kilometers. Guangzhou has gradually formed a complete new energy vehicle industry chain.

Guangzhou will promote transformation and upgrading of new energy industry to make its buses all-electric, intelligent and internet-connected. 

According to the plan, Guangzhou will enhance research and development, design and manufacturing capacity of new energy vehicles to improve product competitiveness and market share.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou will also promote the development of power batteries (including raw materials, batteries, and battery management system), electric motors, charging equipment and other key components industry.

Guangzhou aims to improve its annual production capacity of new energy vehicles to 300,000 by the end of 2020.It will build an international innovation cluster of "new energy + intelligent network" automobile industry.

It will add 50,000 new energy private cars by 2018. By 2020, Guangzhou's total private new energy vehicles are expected to reach 120,000.

By the end of 2018, the city will develop a complete charging infrastructure system for new energy vehicles. There will be 70,000 charging points in the city and the number will reach 100,000 in 2020.
