An art exhibition featuring 100 paintings created by more than 50 artists from Guangzhou and Hong Kong was opened in Guangzhou on Aug 18, running until Aug 22.

Held by the Guangzhou federation of literary and art circles, Guangzhou Daily and Art Hong Kong Magazine, the exhibition celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and promotes exchanges between artists from Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Of the exhibits, 70 are created by artists from Hong Kong and 30 by artists from Guangzhou.

Xiao Huirong, a Hong Kong-based artist and president of the Hong Kong Association of Fine Arts, said he was honored to have his works exhibited. He added that he hoped artists from Hong Kong will be given more chances to communicate with artists from Guangdong.

Xiao's own artwork Dongfang Mingzhu (meaning oriental pearl), made using a mixture of eastern and western drawing techniques, is a highlight of the exhibition. Another is Shangao Shuichang, (meaning high hills and long rivers), created by Rao Zongyi, a renowned Guangdong-based calligrapher and painter.

Lin Minggang, a renowned painter from Hong Kong, said, "I'm excited to be invited to this exhibition, which is a great platform for artists from Hong Kong and Macao to exchange ideas."

Lin's works have been collected by many collectors and exhibited in many art museums across the world. He has hosted many art exhibitions in Shenzhen and Shantou, but it is the first time his works have been on display in Guangzhou. For this exhibition, Lin put forward two of his proudest works depicting Hong Kong Island and Kowloon Peninsula.
