A batch of food produced in Macao Special Administration Region (SAR) entered Guangzhou's Nansha Cross-border E-commerce Park on Aug 17 by means of "direct purchasing import".

It is the first batch of food to enter Nansha from Macao under the Closer Economic Partnership Agreement signed by Chinese mainland and Macao SAR.

"Direct purchasing import" refers to a kind of cross-border transaction made on an e-commerce platform that is connected to customs departments. When the buyers purchase overseas products online, the orders, the payment bills and waybills are sent to customs and then the products enter the country under supervision of the customs department. The procedures for customs clearance can be completed in mere seconds.

The food, wrapped in 1,100 packages, included distinctive snacks made in Macao such as cookies and candy. The packages will be delivered to Guangdong, Zhejiang and Chongqing. The batch of food features a global quality tracking system, allowing consumers to scan the QR code on them to learn about the manufacturer as well as transportation and distribution details.

According to a spokesperson from Nansha Development District management committee, the food entering Nansha marks a new level in cooperation between Guangdong and Macao. "The trade mode reflects Nansha's key role in boosting the relationships between the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao as well as promoting trade in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," he added.

Weng Xuechuan, general manager of Keypon International Logistics, the company which imported the food, said "We chose to enter the Chinese mainland via Nansha because of its mature cross-border e-commerce development and logistics advantages."
