During their internships, the students gained a better understanding of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and distinctive Lingnan culture, touring Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan and Huizhou. The students also learned about the economic and social development of the cities and in particular the development of Nansha district.

Tan Zhijian, from the University of Macau, spent a month as an intern at China Construction Bank Guangdong Nansha Pilot Free Trade Zone Branch. He said the internship enabled him to communicate with people from all walks of life and gain a better understanding of entrepreneurship, the market and policies in China.

A second group of over 200 university students from Hong Kong and Macao will start their internship programs in Nansha district soon.

Dong Ke, deputy head of Nansha district, welcomed the greater student engagement in the district to ensure its future prosperity.

"Located in the middle of the Greater Bay Area, Nansha district is in a good location and I hope more young people from Hong Kong and Macao can come to Nansha to start their internships, get a job and start a business," Dong said.

During the past few years, Nansha has been working hard to attract young talent from Hong Kong and Macao to work in the district, promote the construction of innovation and entrepreneurship service platforms and build itself into a transfer station for those talents with the Chinese mainland.
