Zeng Cong, a businessman from Panyu district in the city of Guangzhou recently drew a great deal of attention following the successful efforts of his team to invent an eco-friendly plastic bag from stone.

Zeng and his men have made this a reality through hard work and have created a garbage bag that is neither toxic nor smelly and can degrade into a harmless substance in a just a few days when exposed to sunshine or buried underground.

Selling at a low price and bearing environmental friendly qualities, Zeng's products have received the thumbs-up from customers and promise to quickly dominate the market. His company currently provides more than 110 million stone-made bags to markets all over China every month.

Zeng has spent years looking for substitutes for common plastic bags which, despite being a daily necessity for many, contribute negatively to the environment in a variety of ways. After eight years of trial and error, he and his team developed a special technology using stones to make garbage bags.

How is this possible? Zeng isn't using common rock but a material called calcite the major component of which is calcium carbonate. Firstly, the calcite is ground into a very fine material and then it is mixed with a high polymer material and resin.

While some may believe this novelty product and environmentally friendly bent may mean higher prices, in fact, Zeng claims his bags to be half that of regular plastic bags.

Moreover, Zeng's company has launched cooperative projects with many big supermarkets and convenience stores in China and he hopes that in the not too distant future even local community stores will sell the bags.

Zeng's company has already accumulated more than 100 patents and was added to the list of "Guangdong's High and New Tech Enterprises". The technology has helped to significantly reduce the consumption of petroleum products and cut down carbon dioxide emissions.
