Hami Uygur embroidery weaves Cantonese style

eguangzhou.gov.cn | Updated:2017-06-06

Flowers are typical patterns of traditional Uygur embroidery. After training in Guangzhou, students perfectly weaved some classic elements of Cantonese embroidery, such as depictions of kapok flowers and lychees, into their works.

"There are lots of lychees in Xinjiang, but we never thought about embroidering them on our cloth," said the leader.

Cui Jianbing, curator of Hami Culture Center, said that most of the craftswomen come from remote mountainous regions.

The exhibition is hoped to boost to their cultural confidence and help promote their works nationwide, said Cui.
