Guangzhou Cosma Automotive Project held a groundbreaking ceremony at Fenglebei Industrial Park on April 26, for the construction of automotive manufacturing base.

Magna International, a leading global automotive supplier, and Guangzhou Automobile Group Component (GACC), signed a deal to build the base on March 10 this year.

The landmark deal pushes Guangzhou further towards its goal of becoming a motor city.

Covering 53,000 square meters, the base aimed to compete against some of South China’s top automobile manufacturers. It will supply automotive components for traditional and new energy vehicles.

Guangzhou has established itself as a competitive manufacturing hub for the automotive industry, producing chassis, car bodies, exteriors, seats, powertrains and electronics.

Cosma's parent company, Magna International, is a leading global automotive supplier with 317 manufacturing operations and 102 product development, engineering and sales centers in 29 countries.

The project consists of two phases. The first phase is expected to put in service this October.
