Guangzhou representative gets reappointed in key UCLG ASPAC position

Guangzhou secured a key position at the 9th United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) Congress, which took place from Nov 13 to 15 in Yiwu, Zhejiang province.

Zhang Yajie, vice chairperson of the Guangzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, retained her role as the chairperson of the UCLG ASPAC Standing Committee for Women in Local Government and as the co-president of the UCLG ASPAC for the next two years.

This reappointment signifies international recognition of Guangzhou's achievements in global urban governance, particularly in the fields of women's and children's affairs and inclusive urban development.

This accomplishment also underscores Guangzhou's active role in international exchange and cooperation, which contributes towards reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

In her speech, Zhang stated that Guangzhou would continue to strengthen its cooperation with other cities, fostering progress and exchange in several fields. This includes urban governance innovation, gender equality, and the protection of children's rights in Asia-Pacific region.

During the conference, the Guangzhou delegation participated in various discussions, including Women's Standing Committee meetings, and engaged in deep exchanges with representatives from multiple countries. The delegation shared the city's experiences in gender equality and women's empowerment.
