Free pet boarding service available for application in Baiyun

GZFAO | Updated:2022-04-18

In line with the spirit of relevant Baiyun District COVID-19 control and prevention documentation, noting the demand for pet boarding and veterinary services in the lockdown and partial lockdown zones, Baiyun District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs officially launched a temporary pet boarding facility. It is estimated that the facility can accommodate approximately 100 pets such as dogs and cats, etc. When your beloved pets are staying at the boarding facility, they will be taken care of by professionals throughout the time free of charge. They will also be given free nucleic acid tests. You will only need to pay when your pets require medical services.

The temporary pet boarding facility is located within the Baiyun District Animal Health Inspection Institute (16 Runyun Road, Baiyun District). The facility mainly provides pet boarding and veterinary services for residents of Baiyun District when they are placed under lockdown or partial lockdown.

As a pet owner, you can apply for the temporary pet boarding service if: a) you are a confirmed COVID-19 patient; b) you live inside the lockdown or partial lockdown zones and are unable to take care of your pet, and c) you are required to go through centralized quarantine, and the circumstances make it difficult to bring your pet along.

Wandering pets found in the lockdown and partial lockdown zones, as well as pets requiring quarantine due to other COVID-19 containment requirements, can also stay at the temporary pet boarding facility and use medical services there, so as to avoid pets being stranded at home and uncared for. This can also prevent owners from being forced to abandon their pets.

It is mentioned that Baiyun District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has signed a cooperation agreement with relevant animal medical service agencies. When the need arises, professionals will feed and monitor the pets, while offering care, health monitoring and medical care services to prevent the occurrence, development or transmission of COVID-19 and animal diseases.

When the lockdown and partial lockdown measures are lifted, pet owners should come to the facility and bring their pets back home within 7 working days.

After the temporary pet boarding facility goes into use, it will continue to provide pet boarding services to residents in need until lockdown and partial lockdown measures are lifted.

"The launch of a temporary pet boarding facility is closely related to the interests and practical needs of the public. It is also relevant to animal welfare and the prevention of the insidious spread of COVID-19. After the temporary pet boarding facility goes into use, it will continue to provide pet boarding services to residents in need until lockdown and partial lockdown measures are lifted. It is estimated that the facility can house 100 pets," an officer from Baiyun District Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs who is in charge of this matter said. Next, the Bureau will set up an efficient working and communication mechanism with relevant departments, the temporary pet boarding facility and volunteers to actively help residents in need apply for pet boarding services according to due process. The aim is to take good care of the pets during the pandemic using an efficient, science-based approach and to practically address the public's urgent demand for pet sitting services when they are under quarantine, so that we can implement COVID-19 control and prevention measures without undermining animal welfare or hurting the pet owners' feelings.

How to apply for the pet boarding service?

The pet owner shall submit an application to the Community (Village Committee).

The Town/Subdistrict (Community/Village Committee) shall notify Baiyun District Animal Health Inspection Institute.

Together with the staff of the temporary pet boarding facility and volunteers, Baiyun District Animal Health Inspection Institute will pick up the pet from the pet owner's home. If they are unable to enter the property due to lockdown (partial lockdown) measures, designated staff of the Town/Subdistrict (Community/Village Committee) will send the pet to the designated spot.

The pet will take a nucleic acid test in the observation room of the temporary pet boarding facility.

Pets in the temporary boarding facility will be taken care of in separate zones in a safe setting in accordance with On-site Working Administration Manual of the Temporary Pet Boarding Facility; pets tested positive will be treated under the guidance of disease control authorities.
