The 2021 Guangdong 21st Century Maritime Silk Road International Expo was held in Guangzhou from Sept 24 to 26.

This year's expo covered a total exhibition area of 70,000 square meters and set up special exhibition areas featuring sectors spanning international cooperation and exchange, international platforms and brands, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and imported food.

More than 1,000 companies participated in the expo and 64 countries and regions set up their national pavilions.

Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that the expo has been well-received globally as it is an important platform for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao to communicate and cooperate with countries and regions alongside the Belt and Road.

He expressed his hope that attendees of the expo can make full use of the platform to deepen communication and promote cooperation.

Lu Pengqi, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, said that this year's event has given full play to the advantages of the domestic market and potential in domestic demand as well as advanced technologies to establish an effective platform for companies from home and abroad to seek cooperation.
