A ceremony marking the end of this year's winter holiday internship program for university students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in Guangzhou has been held in Guangzhou, local media outlets reported on April 7.
The internship program held over the winter holiday provided a new option for those students from Hong Kong and Macao who chose to stay in Guangdong province for the holiday instead of returning their hometown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 172 students from Hong Kong and Macao, who attend universities in Guangdong province such as Sun Yat-sun University, South China University of Technology and Jinan University, were selected to participate in the program.
"Participating in the internship program not only allowed me to avoid frequent contact with crowds but also helped me learn more knowledge. More than 400 students at my university signed up for the program," said a student from Hong Kong, alias Xiao Bing, from Jinan University.
During the ceremony, a new internship program for Hong Kong and Macao students named "hundreds of companies, thousands of talents" was launched for 2021.
A total of 1,000 internship opportunities in areas such as law, finance, science, internet technologies and cultural innovation will be available for Hong Kong and Macao students, allowing them to learn more about the development outcomes of Guangzhou and the wider Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
A series of activities such as cultural experiences, on-site inspections and voluntary services will be held during the program to promote exchanges and communication between youths in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao.
