The awards ceremony for eight Chinese projects that won in the Green Solutions Awards 2019 organized by Construction21 was held in Beijing on Sept 8.

The Lingshan Island area in Nansha district of Guangzhou city, in China's southern province of Guangdong, was awarded the Sustainable District Grand Prize.

The Green Solutions Awards, a major international competition in the sustainable development of cities and buildings, has been held seven times.

The award has three categories, each for buildings, districts and infrastructure. A total of 192 projects from 37 countries competed in the latest contest.

A person in charge of the administration bureau for the development and construction of Pearl Bay said Lingshan Island area had striven to become a national green ecological demonstration zone -- featuring elements spanning green ecology, low carbon and energy-saving initiatives, as well as aiming to be smart city and with distinctive local Lingnan characteristics.

Officials said Lingshan Island area has provided a model and experience for improving Pearl Bay environment, as well as the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Construction21 was established in Belgium in 2012. It has developed into a non-profit organization, popularizing people-oriented and environmentally friendly concepts as well as promoting leading projects and practical experience.

Currently, it has set up platforms in 11 countries including France, China, Germany, Spain, Italy, Belgium and Romania.
