Festival on straw culture takes place in Guangzhou

The fifth straw culture art festival opened at Shimen National Forest Park in Guangzhou on Aug 25 and will last for two months.

Located in northeast Conghua district, Shimen National Forest Park covers a total area of 39,000 mu (260 hectares) and has a forest coverage reaching 96.9 percent. The park was listed as one of the national 4A tourist attractions on Aug 21. 

This year's festival, featuring intangible cultural heritages, covers an area of more than 30 mu and showcases a total of 32 straw exhibits. The exhibits depict elements like the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Chinese shadow puppetry, Chinese chess, as well as the story of Mencius' mother, who moved three times in order to find the best place to raise her son.
