Guangzhou Port achieves positive growth in first half of 2020

Guangzhou Port has conducted a cargo handling capacity of 258.96 million metric tons during the first half of 2020, achieving a positive year-on-year growth, while its container throughput amounted to 10.02 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU), ensuring supplies for people's livelihoods in the South China region.

The port has been an important hub in China's comprehensive transportation system and is also a major port of transshipment for Guangdong's energy supplies, major raw materials, and foreign trade products.

The port has handled a total of 8.06 million tons of grains in the first six months of this year, up 16.7 percent year-on-year, while the volume of grains for export increased by 44.4 percent. The volume of petrochemicals handled at the port climbed by 12.9 percent year-on-year during the same time period.

Guangzhou Port has opened 12 new international liner ship lines in the first half of 2020, making contributions to regional economic development. By the end of June, the port has been able to operate a total of 163 liner ship routes, including 119 heading overseas.

Construction of major projects like the Guangzhou Port Nansha Grain and General Cargo Terminal, the Nansha Port railway, as well as the fourth phase of Guangzhou Port have been pushing forward, aiming to turn the port into a world-leading logistics hub featuring rail-sea intermodal transportation.
