Construction on the passenger terminal project in Guangzhou's Pazhou, which will boast shipping lines heading to Hong Kong and Macao, started on May 26.

Located in Haizhu district, the terminal will be built into a complex featuring water transportation and tourism integrating cross-border tours, intercity tours, as well as island tours, offering more choices and convenience for tourists from both home and abroad.

It is expected that the terminal will become a new channel for water transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, boosting the connectivity level in the area.

The project, which has a first-phase investment of 358 million yuan ($50.17 million), is expected to cover a costal line of 280 meters with five 500 metric ton berths.

Two carbon fiber high-speed passenger ships will be put into operation for the first phase of the terminal, conducting the shipping line between Pazhou and Hong Kong International Airport.

The shipping line will be conducted four times a day for both directions during the preliminary stage of the terminal's operation and the number will increase to six in the future. The whole trip, lasting about 120 minutes, is expected to cost between 200 to 300 yuan.

The second phase of the terminal is scheduled to open shipping lines heading to destinations including downtown Hong Kong, downtown Macao, and Macao International Airport.
