The world's first system-wide operated robotic Chinese restaurant, run by Country Garden, a developer and operator of residential communities, made its debut at Guangzhou's Zhujiang New Town on Jan 12.

The restaurant is named Foodom and mainly offers Shunde cuisine. It has a total of 46 kinds of robots, including those for reception, frying, making desserts, and delivering food.

The dishes in the restaurant are ordered online by scanning the quick response code with smartphones and robots will make dishes according to the orders. It only takes 90 seconds from ordering a hamburger to pick-up, while fried dishes can be finished within five minutes with strong quality.

A complete cloud transport system is available in the restaurant so that dishes can be delivered to customers by automatic guided vehicles directly to the table.

"The core technologies of the system applied in the restaurant was domestically and independently researched and developed, and the robotic restaurant is the most advanced and complete of its kind in the world," said Liu Honghai, a world renowned robotics expert.

The robotic restaurant is suited to being set up in public areas like residential communities, schools, scenic areas, and office buildings. It is expected that only one or two staff members can run the restaurant with the help of data management tools.

"Integrating technology with the food industry means higher efficiency and lower operating costs," said Yang Daiyou from the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences.
