Passengers from Guangzhou will be able to travel to the world renowned exotic holiday destination Penang in Malaysia by cruise ship after Nansha International Cruise Home Port begins operation in November.

Recently, Nansha district and Penang signed a memorandum to boost tourism cooperation and operate a new Belt and Road sea route connecting Nansha International Cruise Home Port and Swettenham Pier.

Penang is one of the top 10 coastal tourism destinations in the world. The pier in Penang connects Malaysia with 200 ports around the world. The signing of the memorandum will promote exchanges between the two sides in the cruise, ports, trade, and humanities industries.

Nansha International Cruise Home Port started construction in Aug 26, 2016 and is scheduled to open for ships in November this year. By then, it will become one of the largest cruise ship home port complexes in the country. It can host the world's largest luxury cruise ship and handle 750,000 passengers annually.

Currently, Nansha Cruise Terminal has opened nine routes to Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines with 12 cruise destinations. The number of cruise route destinations is among the highest in the country, and the port has the most routes to Southeast Asia in China.
