The 12th China Bioindustry Convention, which has the theme of "toward a new era of biological economy: innovation, benefiting mankind and sustainable development," got underway in the Guangdong province capital of Guangzhou on June 10.

Sponsored by several ministries and commissions of China including the National Development and Reform Commission and organized by the Guangdong provincial government and more than 10 authoritative national associations such as the Chinese Society of Biotechnology, this year's convention has become the biggest and most acclaimed bioindustry event in China. The event will run until June 12.

According to the organizing committee, the convention has attracted big names such as Aaron Ciechanover, Israeli biochemist and former Nobel Prize winner in 2004, Thomas R.Gingeras, professor in genomes studies at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and Rocky S. Tuan, who is the president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In addition, more than 50 leading researchers from Harvard University, Stanford University,  John Hopkins University, the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, French National Academy of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and other famous schools and research institutions will also participate in the conference. 

At the convention, 36 high-end professional sub-forums will be held and a match-making platform will be set up for the first time during the convention's history, with more than 300 companies, research institutes, and financing institutions discussing cooperation on 400 projects.
