More than 300 high-profile publicity and government officials and representatives of major media organizations will attend the first Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Media Summit in Guangzhou on May 19.

They will hold in-depth exchanges on innovation and cooperation, media convergence and support for the building of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, said Liu Hongbing, director of the administrative committee of the Guangzhou-based Nanfang Media Group, a co-organizer of the summit, at a news conference on Monday.

Attendants will share their views in keynote speeches and three panels on the bay area and media convergence, humanism, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Jointly organized by the Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Meida Group and Macao Daily, the summit will serve as a platform for innovation in cooperative mechanisms among media, and cooperation in information exchange, joint reporting and programming, and personnel training, Liu said.

The bay area, which consists of nine cities in Guangdong province and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao, encompasses an area of 56,000 square kilometers and had a population of 70 million in 2017, standing as one of the most open and dynamic regions in China.

The outline development plan for the bay area was released in February.

The plan positions the bay area as a vibrant, world-class city cluster; a globally influential international innovation and technology hub; an important support pillar for the Belt and Road Initiative; a showcase for in-depth cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong and Macao; and a quality destination for living, working and traveling.
