High-speed rail cuts Zhanjiang-Guangzhou travel time to 2 hours

eguangzhou.gov.cn | Updated:2019-03-14

The Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed rail link, expected to begin construction this October, will shorten travel time between the two cities to just two hours, according to Jiang Jianjun, mayor of Zhanjiang.

The Zhanjiang mayor made the remarks recently during the two sessions in Beijing.

According to reports from Southcn.com, the rail link stretches 412.7 kilometers and will pass through Guangzhou, Foshan, Yunfu, Yangjiang, and Maoming before terminating in Zhanjiang. It is designed to support a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, which is faster than the current Jiangmen-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway.

The rail project is expected to break ground in October and will take around five years to complete. It will link the downtown areas of Guangzhou and Zhanjiang and allow people to travel between western Guangdong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area within two hours.
