Guangdong Party Secretary Li Xi and Guangdong Governor Ma Xingrui attended the 124th Canton Fair on Oct 15.

As China's largest trade event, the twice-yearly fair has helped Guangzhou cement its role as an important trade hub. It was first launched by the Ministry of Commerce and the China Foreign Trade Center in 1957.

The 124th session is divided into three phases and covers an area of nearly 1.2 million square meters. This year, the total number of booths reached 60,645, with more than 25,000 exhibitors from across the world showing off their products and services.

Li and Ma toured the pavilions set up by Chinese electrical appliance manufacturers Midea, Haier and Wanbao, and talked with the heads of enterprises about business management, brand design and product development.

Li Xi stressed that Guangdong will continue to deepen reform, expand opening-up, adhere to new development concepts, and strive to create an international business environment that promotes high-quality economic development.

"The Belt and Road Initiative and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area have brought us all great opportunities. We hope that all enterprises will strengthen their confidence and make full use of important platforms such as the Canton Fair to further explore the market and seek win-win cooperation," he said.
