Automaker replicates quality survey success

Customer satisfaction and quality control have been key to the success of GAC Motor as it seeks to provide the best in design, components, manufacturing and service.

That helps explain why the Guangzhou-based automaker has excelled again in an authoritative industrial quality rating by market researcher J.D. Power Asia Pacific.

For the sixth year running, GAC Motor ranked first among all independent Chinese brands in J.D. Power's China Initial Quality Study, or IQS.

It also ranked top again in the large SUV market segment with its GS8, setting an example of quality manufacturing for Chinese automotive brands.

The GS8 has sold more than 155,000 units since hitting the market in October 2016.

"We have made many efforts to ensure the quality of our products and aim for zero defects during the manufacturing process," said Yu Jun, president of GAC Motor.

"We built a world-class car manufacturing system in the past decade composed of a global research and development network, world-class manufacturing, and a global supply chain and marketing strategy on par with international standards," he said, adding that the company has been endeavoring to move away from the "Made in China" tag toward "Quality Made in China" and "Created in China".

GAC Motor has launched a comprehensive evaluation and quality development program to build a superior supplier management system, and urges its suppliers to guarantee quality and improve whenever possible, Yu said.

To date, GAC Motor has worked with 18 leading global strategic suppliers to source engines, gearboxes, chassis, electronics and other key components for its vehicles. These suppliers have been encouraged to participate in early R&D and the design of GAC Motor's vehicles.

Since the company was established in 2008, it has adhered to a diversified development plan with an abundant product layout to meet changing market demands.

In addition, GAC Motor has promoted the expansion of its overseas network and built a global marketing service system to showcase China's manufacturing capacity to the world.
