Awakening Lion, a distinctive folk dance drama with Lingnan characteristics, is slated to be staged in Guangzhou Opera House from Sept 28 to 30.

It is the first large-scale dance drama in China under the theme of the national intangible cultural heritage of Guangdong Lion Dance.

With the more than hundred-year ago Opium War as the background of the story, the dramma reached its climax with the Sanyuanli anti-British uprising. The whole story focuses on the national awakening while telling the story of self-awareness and transformation of the two lion dancers in the face of love and hate, and the different life choices of the family and the country. It reflects the indomitable spirit of Guangdong's youth.
