Guangzhou has extended its Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network to a mileage of 520 kilometers, 100 kilometers of which are newly built and opened to traffic on Aug 15, according to the city's traffic authority.
The newly built BRT lanes are located in arteries in Huangpu and Tianhe districts to meet the needs of commuters from peripheral regions to the downtown.
The network can handle 5 million passengers daily and can increase the traffic efficiency in morning and evening rush hours.
The municipal government has been attaching great importance to its public transport system. In the future, based on passenger flows, the traffic authority will continue to improve the network.
