The New Zealand pavilion established for the first time at the South China Book Festival caused quite a sensation among Guangzhou locals during its thorough presentation of the exotic culture and customs of New Zealand.

The New Zealand pavilion features five exhibitions under a cultural carnival theme, and showcases the country's culture through books, tourism products, cultural and creative products, specialties and aboriginal performances.

Matt Duke, member of the New Zealand Parliament, attended the opening ceremony for the pavilion, where he delivered a speech on the prospect of cultural exchanges between China and New Zealand.

He said that the books on display at the pavilion were all written by writers from New Zealand and published in New Zealand. Distinctive wool masks, handmade Maori accessories, wood products, honey and other products representative of New Zealand were also put on display at the pavilion.

According to Matt, this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand, and the two countries have maintained friendly exchanges. Guangzhou and Auckland are sister cities, and next year will be the 30th anniversary of their sister city bond.

He said that the New Zealand pavilion was another form of cooperation between China, New Zealand, Auckland, and Guangzhou, and he hoped to see the New Zealand pavilion at the South China Book Festival again next year.

The five-day 2018 South China Book Festival wrapped up in the city of Guangzhou on Aug 15, receiving over 3 million visitors. More than 270 cultural events were held at the main venue of the event and over 360 cultural celebrities and distinguished guests attended the annual book festival.
