Cai Chaolin, Party chief of Nansha district; Zhou Xi, CEO of Cloudwalk; Yang Juhong, deputy head of Nansha district; Sun Qingkai, vice president of Cloudwalk attended the contract-signing ceremony.

Founded in 2015 in Nansha district, Cloudwalk has applied its facial recognition software in more than 50 airport hubs and 70 banks across China. The company's turnover reached 100 million yuan ($15 million) in 2016.

According to Zhou Xi, the founding of the center comes not only as the implementation of the achievements at the roundtable meeting on AI development held in May, but as a strategic move for his company.

He vowed that Cloudwalk will strive to focus on brand construction, technology innovation and talent introduction, promote the commercialization of AI research and make the AI industry a business card for Nansha district.

In April this year, Guangzhou put forward its IAB initiative to develop industries including next generation of information technology, artificial intelligence and biological medicine. And Nansha district has been pressing ahead with the initiative with more than 60 high-tech companies having settled in the district.

Nansha will build a 100-billion-yuan industrial cluster and a model city featuring "AI plus smart city" in the next three to five years.
