A special corridor featuring the exhibition of a wide range of Maritime Silk Road items was put into use at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on Aug 16, according to local reports.

The Haitian Corridor, 200 meters long, links the departure hall of the airport to one of the airport's arrival halls. The corridor is the result of joint efforts from Guangdong Museum and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

The name "Haitian Corridor" carries figurative meanings with "hai", which means "sea" implies Guangzhou's port culture, "tian" which means "sky" implies Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport and "corridor" means a bridge linking the city with the world.

According to a spokesperson from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, the corridor aims to promote the cultural values of the city, improve services for passengers and spread Chinese culture and China's image.

At the opening ceremony for the corridor, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport signed a memorandum of cooperation with Guangdong Museum. The two parties agreed to set up a mini exhibition featuring displays of pottery and silver jewelry from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) to Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The exhibits will showcase the history of Guangzhou's international trade as one of the birth places of the Maritime Silk Road. The exhibition will last until February next year.

In the future, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will seek more cooperation with Guangdong Museum and organize more activities aimed at promoting Lingnan culture and Guangdong's intangible cultural heritage.
