Two cities in Guangdong province, Guangzhou and Foshan, have pledged to enhance cooperation in many sectors in the future, said officials on July 28.

The duo can complement each other well, as observed by Liu Yuelun, chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Guangzhou Committee, who pointed out that Guangzhou has advanced service industry while Foshan leans heavily on the secondary industry.

"Guangzhou boasts rich education and talent resources, with more capital-intensive industries, and Foshan is home to a large number of private companies pursuing innovation and professionals," he said in a meeting with local officials and entrepreneurs in Foshan.

With developed heavy industries especially the petrochemical industry, Guangzhou is an important supplier of raw materials for Foshan's companies, while Foshan's light industrial products keep flowing into Guangzhou and abroad, he added.

Foshan will deepen cooperation with Guangzhou against the backdrop of the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and will strive to form a world-class urban cluster with Guangzhou, said Lu Yi, Party chief of Foshan.

The two cities have seen many of their government services and businesses overlap over the last decade based on a joint development plan.

An inter-city metro line was opened in November, 2010. Residents from Guangzhou's districts of Liwan, Huadu and Panyu can use government affair services in Foshan's Nanhai, Sanshui and Shunde districts, respectively and vice versa. In addition, Foshan started building a satellite town of the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center in November, 2016.
