Guangzhou's metro network is set to grow even bigger, according to details released in the 13th Five-Year Plan for Guangzhou's urban infrastructure development, which was published recently.

The plan's main target is for Guangzhou to connect up all its transport networks into one integrated system by 2020, including its airports, railways, highways, metro, ports and green transport. This should make travelling around the city quicker and more convenient.

There are also ambitious targets for Guangzhou to create an "Air Silk Road", which should lead to a big increase in the number of flight connections at local airports. By 2020, the city plans to have created a "four-hour traffic circle" connecting Guangzhou with major cities in China and Southeast Asia, and a "twelve-hour traffic circle" linking to metropolises all over the world.

For the railway network, Guangzhou plans to form a "one-hour intercity traffic circle" to make the city the center of the Pearl River Delta Region, connecting nine high-speed railways and four traditional tracks.
