New Central Axis

If the traces of Guangzhou's history can be found in its old central axis, then the future of the city can be seen through its new axis. Stretching from Guangzhou East Railway Station to the Tianhe Sports Center, and from Zhujiang New Town to Huacheng Square and Haixinsha, the new central axis of Guangzhou is a marvel of beauty and prosperity showcasing the advancement of this first-tier Chinese city.

Canton Tower

With a 450-meter-tall body and a 150-meter-tall antenna, Canton Tower is the world's tallest free-standing television tower, boasting an overall height of 600 meters. Canton Tower has become a totem of Guangzhou, offering gorgeous panoramic views of the Pearl River and the entire metropolis. Officially opened to the public on October 1, 2010, the tower is an immensely popular destination for tourists.

Haixinsha

Resting at the center of the new axis, Haixinsha is where Guangzhou’s old axis meets with the new in a symbolic melding of past and future.  The island was thrust into the spotlight during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, causing its reputation to skyrocket. The memorizing skyline beset on both sides of the island offers spectacular night views and breathtaking fountain shows.

With the central business district (CBD) of Zhujiang New Town to its north and Canton Tower to its south, Haixinsha Stadium boasts a 40,000 person seating capacity and a total area of 176,000 square meters.. It is a perfect stadium for cultural, entertainment and ceremonial events.

Transportation:

Take Metro Line 3 to Zhujiang New Town and walk 1 km from Exit B1, or take the APM line to Metro Opera House Station and walk 450 meters to reach Haixinsha Square.

Huacheng Square

Spanning a total area of 560,000 square meters, Huacheng Square is the largest public square in Guangzhou. Home to a man-made lake and a large fountain this “new living room of the city” boasts a picturesque environment adorned with five flower islands and some 600 trees. Standing on the platform in the central garden of the square, the reflections of light and fauna on the water’s surface evoke a dreamlike beauty of no equal.

Transportation:

Take Metro Line 5 to Zhujiang New Town:

(1) Between 7:30 and 21:30 Monday to Friday, you can exit the station through R&F International Center. After exiting the station, turn left and walk five minutes in the direction of Guangzhou Grand Theater.

(2) On Saturday and Sunday, exit the station through Exit B1. Walk 150 meters straight, cross the zebra line (No traffic lights, so pay attention to passing vehicles) and walk straight for about 15 minutes.

Guangzhou New Library

One of the four landmark buildings of Guangzhou’s new axis, Guangzhou New Library houses a collection of four million volumes within its 21,000 square meter layout. Equipped with 6,110 seats and 2,520 information stands, the library is estimated to service between 10 to 15 thousand readers on a daily basis.

Transportation:

Metro: Take Metro Line 3 and get off at Zhujiang New Town Station. Take Exit A.

Bus: Take any bus line that stops at Huacheng Lukou Station

Guangdong Museum

An endless stream of historic treasures is preserved within the walls Guangdong Museum. The museum is home to some 23,000 ancient porcelains and 6,000 ancient paintings offing a holistic view of Cantonese customs and culture.

Admission: Free of Charge

Opening Hours:

9:00 am to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday

Closed on Mondays, unless during statutory holidays or in special circumstance

The number of visitors for each day is limited within 5,000.

Transportation:

Take Metro Line 3 and get off at Zhujiang New Town, or take Metro Line 5 and get off at either Liede Station or Zhujiang New Town.

Guangzhou Opera House

The sole national theater of South China, Guangzhou Opera House is one of the three most famous theaters in the nation, equal to the Beijing Grand Theater and Shanghai Grand Theater. The Guangdong Provincial Museum and Guangzhou Grand Theater stand respectively on the right and left sides of Huacheng Square, giving the civic square a profound cultural touch.

Transportation:

Metro: Take Metro Line 3 or Line 5 to Zhujiang New Town. Take Exit B1 and walk 100 meters south.

Bus:

(1) Take Bus No 40 or No 407. Get off at the Guangzhou Government Affairs Center Station and walk 100 meters south

(2) Take Express Line 11, Line 138 or Line 44 and get off at Huasui Lu Station. Walk about five minutes and you will reach the theater.

Guangzhou No 2 Children's Palace

Guangzhou No 2 Children's Palace boasts 90 multi-functional classrooms for learning foreign language, computers, art, calligraphy, music and dancing. The palace also features seven conference rooms and a state-of-the-art performance center that has a holding capacity of 700 people.

The palace has also set up a number of facilities for outdoor activities its center. In addition to Red Scarf Square, the Cultural and Ecological squares combine form to form a 10,000-square-meter open space for outdoor exercises.

Transportation:

Metro: Take Metro Line 3 to Zhujiang New Town. Take Exit B and cross Huaxia Road. The No 2 Children's Palace stands in front of the R&F Center on the left side of the KWG International Financial Center.

Bus: Take Bus No 40 or No 407 and get off at the Guangzhou Government Affairs Center. Cross Huaxia Lu.

For other bus lines, get off at Wuyang New Village and walk about 15 minutes towards Zhujiang New Town. The No 2 Children's Palace is located to the east of Huaxia Lu.

Guangzhou East Railway Square and CITIC Plaza

East Railway Station Square and CITIC Plaza is regarded as one of the most treasured jewels of Guangzhou’s new axis for its Huangguoshu Waterfall and 4.7 hectare green square.

Transportation:

Take Metro Line 1 or Line 3 to Guangzhou East Railway Station. Or take any bus line that leads to Guangzhou East Railway Station

Tianhe Sports Center

A symbol of Guangzhou's architectural achievements, Tianhe Sports Center was first established in 1987. Originally consisting of a stadium, a gymnasium and a natatorium, the center was expanded after the Sixth National Games to include a baseball field, a tennis court, a bowling alley, a croquet court, an indoor karting facility, an outdoor swimming pool and a body-building center.

Fully opened to the public in 1995, the 510,000 square meter sports center now features green surroundings and a sub-tropical garden setting, making it a prime multifunctional sports complex that integrates fitness, recreation, leisure and exhibition.
