Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province, experienced a tourism boom during the week-long Spring Festival holiday from Jan 27 to Feb 2.

The city welcomed 13.24 million visitors arriving from home and abroad, up 15.08 percent year-on-year, and generating a record high revenue of 9.83 billion yuan ($1.43 billion), up 16.18 percent on 2016, according to data from the municipal tourism bureau.

The city's 32 main tourist spots (excluding commercial pedestrian streets and municipal parks) welcomed 2.8 million tourists during the holiday, among which the Canton Tower and Chimelong Tourist Resort stood out with a year-on-year increase of 43.6 percent and 12.7 percent, respectively. Chimelong Safari Park set a new record of 300,000 visitors in one day on Jan 30.

Thanks to the sunny weather, warm temperatures, flowery surroundings and alluring Cantonese food, Guangzhou was one of the top 10 destinations for Chinese tourists during the holiday, according to an annual list for the most popular destinations released by China Tourism Academy and Ctrip, one of the country's biggest online travel agencies.

Meanwhile, a sample survey carried out during the holiday showed that tourists' satisfaction rate was 99.3 percent. Tourist areas, tourism service, transportation, urban environment, and public security received favorable reviews from most visitors.

Data showed that domestic tourists were the majority group, accounting for 90.7 percent of the total, with overseas tourists standing at 9.3 percent, a significant increase over last year. Cantonese food and the Canton Tower are considered to be the two main attractions when people visit Guangzhou, followed by Lingnan customs, the profound culture and modern cityscape.
